Libertad Largamente Esperada

The Filipino people have fought for independence from various colonial powers for generations. They have survived several wars in order to tell their stories and bring credit to their homeland. The country declared independence from 300 years of Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. Since then, the Filipino people have made several efforts to recognize and honor this significant historical event. Let us remember the troops we lost and the flag we proudly raise while we go about our daily lives in the new world, independent and free of bloodshed.

July 4, 1946 is the original date of the Philippines’ Independence Day. It is when the Filipino people finally got their long-desired independence from the United States of America. Since then, the country officially became the Republic of the Philippines. However, in 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal moved Philippine Independence Day to June 12, commemorating the 1898 Filipino proclamation. Both days should be honored and celebrated, in my opinion, because they are significant. Countless Filipino lives were lost in order for the country to achieve what it did at the time

In conclusion, the Philippines' Independence Day is and should always be meaningful. We must pay tribute to all Filipino troops and people who battled against colonial control, not just the well-known national heroes. They died honorably and for the sake of the country's independence. That is why we must educate the current generation of Filipinos. We should always make time to pray for our kababayans who have died. Without them, we would not be where we are today. Without them, we would not have the so-called "Kalayaan." During this glorious day, show your thankfulness from now on.

The Batbat Festivity

Binatbatan Festival traces its roots to the abel weaving industry of Vigan which has been in existence even before the Spaniards came to colonize the Philippines. ”Binatbatan” is the process of beating cotton pods to remove the seeds for Abel weaving. Which locals interpreted as an occupational dance with the use of two sticks called ”batbat”. Binabatan street dance is one of the main attractions during the week-long celebrations. It evolved from this and majestically transformed today as the most colorful and significant festival to Bigueños as it focuses on the remembrance of Apo Lakay's deliverance as well as promoting the local fabric, Abel Iloco.      The present COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of us. Nonetheless, it is heartening to realize that we can still celebrate despite the conditions. We can't enjoy it as we used to because of the high risk of being infected by the virus and the severe health protocols that go along with it. We have les...
