The Festival of Festivals

            Kannawidan Ilocos Festival is a festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur commemorating the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. This festival is a showcase of indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demos featuring the best of Ilocano dishes. It is a celebration that lasts from the last week of January up to the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the commemoration of the foundation day of the province. On the day of the opening, a mass is generally held at the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral. It is followed by a parade around the city of the Patron Saints of the 40 parishes, as well as representations of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. It is the Ilocanos' way of thanking the Almighty not only for the many benefits but also for the city's rich heritage, which includes the Ilocanos' close family ties.
